Job Position: Both Apprenticeship & Non-Apprenticeship Positions
Salary: $23 - $25hr
Job Requirement
- Completion of a Horticulture Diploma or enrollment in a Horticulture program from a recognized post-secondary institution, with a minimum of two years related experience
- Hold a valid driver’s license for at least 5 years and a clean driver’s abstract
- Have sound knowledge of caring for perennials, trees and shrubs
- Skilled in using a variety of power equipment including a hedge trimmer, lawn mower, line trimmer, aerator, blower, etc.
- Excellent landscaping skills and output, great team management skills and the ability to plan ahead and manage changes with ease
- Excellent written and verbal communication
Transportation Requirements
- Must have Drivers license
Job Description
• Supervise and lead a crew of 2-4 people, creating a worksite environment that promotes efficiency, productivity and WCB safety standards
• Train new staff in proper horticulture practices and procedures
• Plan and develop weekly, monthly, seasonal tasks to improve the garden and landscape as a whole, including estimating of tools, time, materials and labour necessary to complete the tasks
• Pruning small trees, shrubs and hedge material; using both hand and power tools
• Weeding, dead heading, planting of annuals, perennials and bulbs
• Small installations and plant layout of gardens
• Maintain health of perennials, shrubs and trees using proper IPM practices
• Total lawn maintenance using both hand and power tools, fertilizers and cultural practices
• Maintenance of outdoor power equipment for efficiency and endurance
• Ensure customer support that exceeds their expectations
• Responsible for the garden’s success and the satisfaction that comes with it!
