Job Position: Non-Apprenticeship Position
Salary: $60,000 - $67,000 annually, depending on experience.
Job Requirement
- Must be an ISA Certified Arborist and have current ISA TRAQ qualification.
- Must have at minimum four years of comprehensive arboricultural experience.
- Must possess a Class 5 Drivers Licence with Air Brakes endorsement and without serious contraventions, able to drive company vehicles including trucks.

Job Description
Purpose:
The Safety & Training Officer is responsible for supervising and managing work crews and ensuring adherence to industry and company specific safety policies and procedures. They oversee the work of their coworkers and support training and safety initiatives for the betterment of overall safety, health, and wellness of company staff. Participating in the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee, they are Subject Matter Experts on the OHS policies and procedures established by the company. They act as catalyst for professional development and skills acquisition by providing training and competency evaluations for outside workers.
Specific Duties:
A Safety & Training Officer will have a variety of tasks to perform daily including safe work observations, incident/accident investigations, RTW coordinating, leading crews to perform all aspects of arboriculture and tree care, providing training /evaluations to staff and the public, mentoring/supervising staff skills development, and administrative work in accordance with OHS procedures. They must demonstrate a high level of competency and adherence to ANSI Z133 and company safety policies and procedures, as well as proactively propose improvements to existing safety standards.
Safety Ambassador
Lead crews by example through performing all arboricultural services to the highest level of safety & efficiency.
Visit various crews/sites and perform safe work observations.
Provide immediate feedback from safe work observations and discipline for violations when necessary.
Perform incident investigations and reports in compliance with WCB OHS regulations.
Participate in monthly JOHSC meetings and propose topics of discussion.
Host weekly safety meetings with crews, prepare meeting outlines and distribute topic.
Perform tree risk assessments/other consulting tasks when necessary to educate.
Safely ascend trees to perform climbing arborist tasks/aerial inspections.
Training
Train team mates in alignment with their professional goals both on site and in the appropriate testing facilities.
Participate in employee orientations, initial competency testing and onboarding.
Assign and provide appropriate tools and equipment to employees.
Manage teammate training portfolios and work with other managers/mentors to facilitate progress of employees.
Host or co-host public education courses/seminars.
Administrative
Scheduling crews when needed, acting as a crew leader and supervisor.
Keeping up to date records on various safety initiatives such as safe work observations, competency evaluations, incident/accident investigations, corrective actions, OHS change tracking, and the annual OHS review.
Job Location
Working Conditions:
Can vary depending on work site locations and projects acquired by the sales and consulting team. Outdoor work sites can vary throughout BC Lower Mainland and beyond.
Work time is heavily weighted on field work observations and training, with office time preparing reports, employee orientations, administrative duties, and hosting training seminars/courses.
Physical fitness is an asset and ability to safely ascend trees is necessary.
