A hands-on workshop on how to justify, design, build, maintain and comply. Participants will create scaled sand models of natural playgrounds using 5 basic elements: changing topography, creating pathways, adding boulders, logs and large trees. This facilitated modeling exercise will illustrate how to interpret CAN/CSA Z614-07 (and 14), CPTED, ADA, Municipal and Provincial Building Codes, and standard maintenance protocols in a municipal context for natural playgrounds.
